    WHAT TO DO FIRST

You’ve been arrested for DUI, now what? We recommend doing the following:

    1. Contact our office immediately to schedule a free consultation to discuss the details of your case and find out what options you may have.

    2. If you are going to wait to contact an attorney, YOU MUST set up a D.M.V. hearing within 10 days of your arrest or risk losing your license. If you do not contact the D.M.V. within 10 days of your arrest, your license will automatically be suspended or revoked for 4 months to 3 years. Carefully read the pink temporary license you were given for more details.

    3. Write down or record everything that happened to you from 24 hours before your arrest to the time you were released from custody.

Include as much detail as possible and include things like:

       • what you had to eat and drink and when you ate and drank,
       • what medication you take and when you took it,
       • why your were stopped/ contacted by the police,
       • exactly where the incident occurred,
       • what happened step by step during the DUI investigation,
       • what happened after you were arrested,
       • medical, dental, psychological issues you have and
       • any aggravating factors such as drugs, underage passengers, injuries or weapons.

Remember memories fade with time. It is very important to record your memories of what happened while those events are still fresh in your mind.
